Specifying a boiler for higher ground around Caerphilly

The single most important measurement before installing a boiler in Caerphilly is the incoming mains flow rate, and it is the one most often skipped. Pressure and flow fall with elevation, and properties on the higher ground around the town can have materially less available than a combi boiler needs to run a shower and a tap at once. Fitting a larger combi does not solve it, a boiler cannot heat water it is not being supplied.

Where flow is genuinely limited, the right specification is usually a system boiler with a stored hot water cylinder, which fills at whatever rate the mains allows and then delivers at a useful rate on demand. If an unvented cylinder is used it needs the appropriate qualification to install and annual attention thereafter. I will explain the trade-off rather than defaulting to a combi because it is quicker to fit.

Exposure shapes the rest of the installation. Condensate pipework needs to be run internally where possible, and where it must go outside it needs larger diameter, proper insulation and adequate fall, because an exposed run up here will freeze. Flue terminal position needs to respect Building Regulations clearances from boundaries and openings.
