Victorian Terraces — Roath & Cathays
The terraces around Roath and Cathays are beautiful but their plumbing is often original: seized stopcocks, imperial-sized pipework and ageing gate valves. When a leak starts and the stopcock won't turn, I can isolate at the external stop valve — I carry the keys. I also attend plenty of student lets here and are happy to liaise with your landlord or letting agent.
1930s Semis — Whitchurch, Rhiwbina & Birchgrove
North Cardiff's semis usually run vented systems with a cylinder in the airing cupboard and a cold tank in the loft — so a failed ball valve or a split tank shows up as water through the ceiling. I'm based minutes away in CF14, so these are some of my fastest call-outs.

Newer flats in the Bay and city centre typically run pressurised unvented systems that need a qualified engineer, not a general handyman. Loss of pressure, tripped immersions and leaking isolation valves in service cupboards are the usual culprits — all things I fix daily.

My base is at Jubilee Gardens, CF14, so Heath, Birchgrove, Llanishen, Whitchurch and Rhiwbina are usually a few minutes away. Anywhere else in Cardiff I aim to reach inside 90 minutes, traffic depending — I'll give you an honest ETA when you call.
My stopcock won't turn and water is pouring in — what do I do?
Common in older Cardiff terraces where stopcocks have seized. Look for the external stop valve — a small cover in the pavement outside — or call me straight away: I carry stop valve keys and can isolate the supply from outside while I repair the leak.
Do you attend rented and student properties?
Yes — I regularly attend emergencies in rented houses around Cathays and Roath. If you're a tenant, call me first to make the property safe, and I can liaise with your landlord or letting agent about the repair.
