My boiler's showing a fault code and it's freezing outside — what is it?
Nine times out of ten on a frosty valley morning it's a frozen condensate pipe. Pouring warm (not boiling) water over the external pipe and resetting the boiler often clears it. If not, call me — and ask about insulating or re-routing the pipe so it's a one-off.
Water is coming through my ceiling — what do I do first?
Turn off the main stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink in most Caerphilly terraces), open the cold taps to drain the pipes down, and keep electrics near the leak switched off. Then call me — I'm on call 24/7.
