Book NowIn most Cardiff terraces the bathroom sits in the rear back addition, and that single fact drives the majority of design decisions. There is normally one soil stack serving the whole property, and the position of that stack sets where the WC can go. Moving a WC any real distance means either a substantial change to the waste run or a macerator, and the two have very different consequences for how the room works.
Waste falls are the constraint people underestimate. Replacing a bath with a level-access shower is one of the most requested changes we do, and in a back addition it depends entirely on whether there is depth in the floor to achieve the required fall to the stack. Sometimes there is, sometimes the joists run the wrong way, and occasionally the answer is a shallow tray rather than a fully level tray. We would rather establish that at survey than discover it once the floor is up and the room is unusable.
The other Cardiff-specific point is the age of the incoming pipework. Terraces of this period often retain original supply pipework, and it is worth checking condition and material while the room is stripped, because it is far cheaper to replace a run then than to go back into a finished bathroom. Soft water means scale on new fittings is not a concern here, so specification is about function and layout rather than protecting against hardness.
